Port Gamble

Creating Community with Food

Kathryn researched and evaluated opportunities to redevelop an agricultural residential master planned community at Port Gamble, Washington for Olympic Property Group (now Rayonier, Inc.). This assignment builds on MetroAG Strategies’ relationship in previous agri-hood visioning with Port Gamble’s owner Rayonier.

The first element of the assignment was online research of successful agriculturally-focused real estate developments in the West. Special attention was paid to projects with greenhouses.

Then, Kathryn evaluated and discerned optimal amenities of successful agricultural residential real estate developments that could add value to the Port Gamble Master Plan development.

As part of the assignment, Kathryn managed the process of agricultural soil testing across the potential farm areas. She worked with an agricultural soil testing company and Kitsap Conservation District to interpret the results to understand the various soils attributes.

Finally, she analyzed the soil testing results and prepared written analysis to assess agricultural possibilities and optimal locations for farming with an intended goal to create a Port Gamble agricultural residential master-planned community.
